PLOT:
Bellaria Film Festival Anteprima Doc is one of the oldest Italian Festivals among those dedicated to independent Italian productions.
It was born in the early 80s thanks to the District Management and to some critics such as Morando Morandini and Gianni Volpi. It inaugurated (together with the Young Cinema Turin Festival) the independent productions mainstream, and has become, throughout its 24 years, one of the most authoritative festivals in this area.
Bellaria Film Festival has been directed by Morando Morandini, Gianni Volpi, Antonio Costa, Roberto Silvestri, Enrico Ghezzi, and Daniele Segre, who became director after actually winning the festival in 1984 with “Vite di ballatoio”.
Bellaria Film Festival has always given a lot of visibility to documentary: some of its retrospectives contributed to making the young generations of authors get to know the works of documentary-makers such as Vittorio De Seta and Gianfanco Mingozzi.
Documentaries have always been included in the programmes, and they often won the Anteprima Contest; as an example, Fabiana Sargentini won in 2004 with “Sono incinta” and in 2005 with “Di madre in figlia” (joint with another documentary “La stoffa di Veronica” by Emma Rossi-Landi).
Since 2006 the artistic manager has been Fabrizio Grosoli, who aimed at enhancing even more the value of documentary, considered as the cinematographic form that is most focused on present time.
